«روساتوم» تقود تحالفاً لبناء محطة طاقة نووية في كازاخستان

Kazakhstan's authorities, the largest producer of uranium in the world, announced yesterday (Saturday) the selection of the Russian giant in nuclear energy industries, "Rosatom," to build the country's first nuclear power plant, a project that France, China, and South Korea had been eyeing.

The Kazakh Atomic Energy Agency announced: "Rosatom has been chosen to lead an international consortium to build the first nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan."

Kazakhstan, which is the largest producer of uranium in the world, accounting for 43% and the third-largest supplier of natural uranium to the European Union, is facing a severe electricity shortage necessary for domestic consumption, according to the French news agency (AFP).

The Kazakh agency indicated that it is considering obtaining government funding for exports at the expense of the Russian Federation, in line with Rosatom's proposals.

Rosatom, alongside the China National Nuclear Corporation, Electricité de France, and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (South Korea), was seeking to build the first nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan.

The agency added that it "will continue to work with foreign partners to form an effective international consortium," without providing further details.

This international consortium project, the details of which have not been disclosed, comes in response to the desire of Kazakh leader Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to maintain good relations with major powers.
