انتقد الفنان المصري محيي إسماعيل، تكريمه بالدورة الـ 18 في المهرجان القومي للمسرح المصري، مؤكدًا أن الجائزة كانت مجرد ورقة لا تليق به، وأن التكريم الحقيقي بالنسبة له هو الحصول على مقابل مادي.
وقال محيي إسماعيل خلال حواره ببرنامج «يحدث في مصر»، إنه يجب على من يكرمه أن يعطيه قيمته ولا مانع من إعطائه جائزة مالية أو جائزة تشبه الأوسكار، واصفاً تكريمه من المهرجان بأنه لم يعجبه.
وأوضح محيي إسماعيل قائلاً: «لم يعجبني تكريمي بالمهرجان القومي للمسرح ولازم كان يكون التكريم حاجة قيمة وكبيرة وأنا تاريخ وتعبت أوي، لازم من يكرمني يعطيني قيمتي وإيه المشكلة لما أخذ فلوس وتعطيني جائزة شبه الأوسكار ويكون لها ذكرى كبيرة».
وتابع محيي إسماعيل: «التكريم لازم يكون فلوس وتديني حاجة شبه الأوسكار والمسرح حاجة عظيمة وقوية، لكن فيه لذة للفنان للاحتكاك مع الجمهور».
ومن جانبها، وجهت الفنانة المصرية ميمي جمال على الهواء رسالة لمحيي إسماعيل بعد مطالبته بالحصول على جوائز مالية بدلاً من التكريم، وانفعلت قائلة: «الإمكانيات لا تسمح إنها تجبلك تمثال ذهب عيار 24.. إنت مميز نفسك ليه؟ كلنا أضفنا».
يذكر أن إدارة المهرجان القومي للمسرح المصري ألغت، أخيراً، الندوة الخاصة لمحيي إسماعيل. وأكدت إدارة المهرجان في بيان رسمي أن سبب الإلغاء يرجع إلى عدم التزامه بالموعد، وتضمن البيان أن قرار الإلغاء جاء في إطار الحرص على انتظام البرنامج الرسمي للمهرجان.

During his interview on the program "Happening in Egypt," Mohie Ismail stated that those who honor him should give him his worth, and there is no objection to giving him a cash prize or an award similar to the Oscars, describing his recognition from the festival as unsatisfactory.
Mohie Ismail explained, saying: "I did not like my honoring at the National Theater Festival; it should have been something valuable and significant. I have a history and I have worked hard. Those who honor me must give me my worth, and what's the problem with receiving money and giving me an award similar to the Oscars that has a significant memory."
He continued, "The honoring must involve money and give me something like the Oscars. Theater is something great and powerful, but there is also pleasure for the artist in interacting with the audience."
For her part, the Egyptian artist Mimi Jamal sent a message to Mohie Ismail live on air after he demanded financial awards instead of recognition, reacting emotionally and saying: "The resources do not allow for bringing you a 24-carat gold statue... Why do you consider yourself special? We have all contributed."
It is noteworthy that the administration of the Egyptian National Theater Festival recently canceled the special seminar for Mohie Ismail. The festival administration confirmed in an official statement that the reason for the cancellation was his failure to adhere to the schedule, and the statement included that the decision was made in the interest of maintaining the regularity of the festival's official program.
