King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah is a major gateway to the homeland. It entered the list of the world's giant airports after more than 53.4 million passengers passed through it in 2025 via 310,000 flights, the highest number recorded by a Saudi airport since the beginning of aviation in the Kingdom. The airport continues to expand towards a target of over 90 million passengers annually by 2030, while international awards and accolades enhance its presence among the world's airports.
Behind these numbers lies a broader human scene. Millions of faces, languages, and stories pass through one place. Pilgrims and Umrah performers cross it on their spiritual journeys, tourists arrive to discover the Kingdom, and cultures from all corners of the earth intersect in its halls. A picture is formed upon arrival, and another remains upon departure.
In this global extension, culture is a part of the identity of the place. The airport presents its homeland through the movement of planes, the spaciousness of its halls, and operational efficiency, while the culture and arts of the Kingdom are present, reflecting its history, identity, and memory.
The larger the airport, the wider the window of the homeland to the world
On Saudi National Day, Saudi arts were present in this window in their own unique language. Hundreds of artworks were distributed across three locations in arrivals, departures, and the event launch site, and thousands of travelers and visitors found art on their way. A painting, a photo, a sculpture, and calligraphy, music, a traditional dance, and live painting. A scene that combined history, memory, and arts in a place through which the cultures of the world move.
Models.. History and Crafts in the Place
Travelers were captivated by models of Al-Masmak Palace and the Gate of Mecca, landmarks associated with the founding king Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, may God have mercy on him, in the journey of unifying the country. From Riyadh to Jeddah, the two models carried the memory of a phase that created a homeland. Doors opened by the founder from which the light of the homeland shone and its unity was embodied.
The Arabic letters were present in contemporary models, where the letters emerged from the surface of the panel and took their size in the space, carrying the beauty of the Arabic language, its identity, and its cultural extension.
Photography.. The Memory of the Homeland Travels
All regions of the Kingdom were present in the photos with their geographical and cultural diversity, from people and places to nature, architecture, and heritage. The lenses captured the features of a homeland with multiple environments, deeply rooted in identity, extending from one region to another and converging in the memory of the homeland.
The image does not stop time.. it brings it back to life.
At the airport, the image travels twice, within its frame, and with a traveler who captured it with his phone and took it to his destination, carrying the image of the Kingdom to the world.
Calligraphy and Color.. The Imprint of a Nation and the Memory of a Homeland
In the Arabic calligraphy pavilion, various schools and formations of letters were present, showcasing their beauty, cultural depth, and Arab and Islamic extension, stopping travelers from different languages and cultures in front of a visual language that carries the identity of the Kingdom and its civilizational roots.
Next to the artworks, the calligrapher wrote the names of visitors, sending papers to different cities and countries carrying the imprint of a nation.. and the memory of a homeland.
In the arrival halls, color welcomed travelers with works that presented the land, people, identity, and memory, and in live painting, attendees added their touches, transforming observation into participation.
Music.. The Memory is Also Heard
The oud and qanun met on national melodies that have lived in Saudi memory: “Tell us, O Hills of Najd,” “Above the Clouds,” “My Country, the Beacon of Guidance,” “My Beloved Homeland,” and “We are the Men of Abu Fahd.”
Some songs do not need to be recalled.. they are the ones that recall us.
The Saudi Ardha was present in several locations inside the airport with the rhythm of drums, the majesty of the lines, and the pride of the flag. Amid the echo of drums and the rise of swords, the memory of a homeland and the glory of a state were present, a unity written with determination and passed down from generation to generation.
In the Ardha, glory is not narrated by words alone.. it has its rhythm, its flag, and the steps of its men.
Amid these arts, the scene took on a human dimension connected to the philosophy of the place. Between arrival and departure, procedures, and schedules, the traveler found culture in his path, addressing his memory and feelings, placing beauty and art at the heart of the travel experience.
Art humanizes the place.. and at the airport, it gives the journey a memory that transcends arrival and departure.
At King Abdulaziz International Airport, Saudi arts are present as an extension of the identity and character of the place. The engineering, spaciousness, and movement shape its global presence, while letters, color, images, music, and heritage narrate the story of the land it stands on. Here, the traveler knows where he has arrived and carries with him upon departure an image of a homeland with its culture, history, and arts.
An International Airport with a Saudi Identity.. Unlike Any Other
The partnership between Jeddah Airports Company and the Jeddah Culture and Arts Association takes on a deeper meaning in this presence. What was witnessed in the halls reflects an administrative awareness of the value of culture and arts and their place in the identity of the place and its humanization, and a vision for the airport that transcends its operational function to a space representing the homeland before the world.
This awareness is present in the direction of Jeddah Airports Company, led by Engineer Raed Al-Mudayhim, Chairman of the Board, and Engineer Mazen Jawhar, CEO, where the global nature of the airport meets its Saudi identity, and culture and arts find their place in the scene seen by millions of travelers from around the world.
Arts are one of the languages of quality of life and humanizing cities, carrying the spirit of Saudi Arabia, its identity, and its memory, and their impact extends to cultural and creative industries, tourism, and events. In this sense, their presence is connected to the cultural transformation that the Kingdom is experiencing with Vision 2030, led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and what the cultural sector is witnessing under the leadership of Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, where culture has become an integral part of social and economic development and the civilizational presence of the Kingdom.
We live art with the memory of a homeland and a solid identity.. and we move with them towards a future we shape.
The National Day experience opens a broader horizon for the permanent presence of Saudi arts at King Abdulaziz International Airport before the world. The incoming traveler meets the culture of the Kingdom upon arrival, and the departing traveler carries its image with him. A painting, letters, images, sculptures, and music narrate the story of this land and its people, keeping the Saudi identity present in the memory of the traveler.
As the airport continues to expand and the movement of travelers grows, its window to the world widens, along with the presence of Saudi culture before millions of people with their different languages and cultures.
Airports are gateways to cities.. and arts are gateways to their souls.
And artists deserve appreciation. With their colors, lenses, letters, and music, Saudi culture was present before thousands of travelers, and their works traveled to the memory of multiple cultures. For every hand that created a work, and for every artist who left their mark in the memory of the place.. thank you.
As an extension of this partnership, the Jeddah Culture and Arts Association gifted Jeddah Airports Company the mural “Memory of the Land” by artist Thamer Al-Ribat, and an artistic model of the King Abdulaziz International Airport logo.
The event has ended, but the images remain in phones, and the names in Arabic calligraphy in the travelers' bags, and the melodies in memory, with art as a witness to a homeland that presents its culture and identity.. and inspires the world.
It all began on National Day.. and between art and the airport lies a story worth telling, and a partnership that extends to write new pages in the record of Saudi civilization.
