(We did not open a box)
We did not open the doors of the night for a caravan that we realized the night was courting in the silence of the valleys; so we walked to the spring alone without memories.
We did not open the wooden memory box tucked away in the corner of the room; we knew that the joy hidden within it would envelop us like the incense of the holiday, and that the memory sat within it in white garments. We knew that the fragrance would take us to the first pulse, to a place we knew precisely, and to features distinguished by a sting it had not learned to hide.
The night is very generous in the village. When silence becomes the lanterns of its virgin solitude, the full moon shines brightly in the darkness.
(The image tells more)
Was he sitting here by the fire, preparing its coffee while baking the discs of sorrow to know its longing and smell the nostalgia of its kneaded fingers behind his warm features?
Was she walking in the house to fill it with strength so that it would move, charged with silence and wounded by steps that had not yet revealed the erosion of its joints?
His village was in the distance, and it was a knife sharpened by love, and it was his coffee carved in the heart, a Bedouin mood.
She was weaving the memory of the child with the scent of blond coffee, the smell of boiled goat's milk in the morning, the aroma of the pancakes soaked in ghee and a bit of sidr honey or samr.
