Cultural figures at the Creativity Tent of the Assilah Forum during its 46th session recalled the late minister Mohamed Ben Issa and his contributions to etching the name of his city (Assilah) in the consciousness and awareness of the world. The autumn event was dominated by eulogies for the icon (Ben Issa), who harmonized politics and culture. The speakers and participating audience entrusted the Secretary-General, Hatem Battoui, with the responsibility of ensuring cultural and creative sustainability for his city in accordance with the realities of the era.
Participants unanimously agreed on the value of the impact left by the developmental ambassador, Minister Mohamed Ben Issa, given his esteemed position as a capable statesman and seasoned diplomat, in addition to his high human qualities, broad-mindedness, and passion for culture.
The symposium included speakers from Arab and Western backgrounds who participated in six sessions and presented forty testimonials.
The Secretary-General of the Assilah Forum Foundation, Hatem Battoui, emphasized that (Ben Issa) planted "a good seed that quickly blossomed into a tree whose branches and shadows extended east and west, north and south, and has lovers in every country, because it stemmed from a benevolent spirit and noble goals that elevate the status of thought and creativity, placing the honor of high human values above all considerations."
Battoui confirmed that (Ben Issa) "left behind loyal men and women to his message, ensuring the continued effective contribution of the city of Assilah to the cultural radiance of the Kingdom of Morocco and in spreading the high values of thought and creativity." Therefore, he concluded by discussing "the message of hope and determination to continue the inspiring teacher's message: a message of steadfastness on the path of intellectual enlightenment, cultural development, high human values, and a commitment to tolerance, openness, and cultural dialogue."
Prince Bandar bin Sultan praised (Ben Issa) in a message sent to the forum, highlighting the "bonds of love, brotherhood, and friendship" that connected them since their time working together in Washington. Prince Bandar bin Sultan stated that (Ben Issa) was "a good supporter and a great companion in defending the issues of the Arab and Islamic nations," expressing his happiness to participate in several sessions of the Assilah International Cultural Season alongside his late friend. He noted that their relationship continued until he moved to "the abode of honor and goodness," referring to his appointment as Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1999. He clarified that he consistently worked with (Ben Issa) to strengthen and solidify the long-standing bilateral ties between the Moroccan and Saudi kingdoms, adding, "We have consistently developed and nurtured the close and historical bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the sisterly Kingdom of Morocco, which have extended for decades and are nurtured by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and King Mohammed VI, who are keen to develop them in all fields, serving the common interests of both countries and enhancing the interests of the Arab and Islamic nations, as well as international peace and stability."
Prince Bandar looked forward to the successors in the city of Assilah continuing the "path" of (Ben Issa) to "develop the forum and complete the good journey" that the late minister began.
Former Secretary-General of the Arab League Amr Moussa praised the late Mohamed Ben Issa for his "great services to his town, country, and nation." He stated that the deceased was "an embodiment of the Moroccan citizen, emotionally connected to an Arab nation with a rich culture, despite having a strong bond with Western culture." He added, in a message to the Secretary-General of the Assilah Forum Foundation, that Ben Issa "was a positive blend of the two cultures and a positive link between the two mentalities," noting that this cultural diversity produced "an open mind, a bright intellect, and an eloquent tongue."
Advisor to the King of Bahrain for Media Affairs Nabil Al-Hamr spoke about (Ben Issa) as a cultured person, connected with his Arab community, and loving to all. He added, "He has left us physically, but his cultural and intellectual legacy will remain immortal in the memory of everyone who knew him or was influenced by his ideas and visions. He had a clear vision regarding the importance of culture as a means of communication and understanding between peoples," and "he contributed to building bridges of understanding and cooperation between civilizations," and "strived hard to present Arab culture to the world, emphasizing its blend with other cultures."
Libyan Minister Abdurrahman Shalgham touched on aspects of (Ben Issa)'s life, saying, "He was a gathering of men and minds, a library moving along a long path, through which he resided and never left this world."
Lebanese journalist Khairallah Khairallah affirmed that (Ben Issa) was a bundle of energy in every work he engaged in and in every task assigned to him, as he was "the easy impossible" and "many men in one man." His "concern in everything he did was to serve Morocco," while "he was always accompanied by that humility that only great people possess, those who are confident in themselves and at the same time enjoy the pride and dignity of a Moroccan who knows exactly the importance of his country and its established institutions, foremost among them the throne and its ancient history." He considered that "the loss of Mohamed Ben Issa is irreplaceable."
The Secretary-General of the Arab Media Forum in Kuwait, Madi Al-Khamis, presented images of (Ben Issa)'s role, saying, "He was generous in everything, straightforward, profound, and believed that there is no renaissance without freedom, and no progress without enlightened thought." He added, "He is the teacher and the inspirer, ahead of his time, and lived for principles, leaving an indelible mark."
Meanwhile, the First Deputy of the Shura Council in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Jamal Fakhro, sent a message to (Ben Issa), stating, "We do not remember you because we do not forget you." He added, "How can we remember you when you are among us? You have not been absent from us for a moment. Your body is still with us; we touch it, shake hands with it, and embrace it without any effort. We see you in every step we take here in Assilah." The thinker Said bin Said Al-Alawi reviewed aspects of (Ben Issa)'s personality, which can be summarized in the attribute of capability, embodied in leadership, presidency, and the ability to change. He presented three manifestations of the leadership spirit that distinguished (Ben Issa), represented in clear vision and determination, and the belief that culture is not a luxury, in addition to the question of what civil society can offer. Writer Abduwahab Badr Khan described (Ben Issa) as a person of great transparency, as everyone knows all aspects of his personality, from diplomat to intellectual to politician. Meanwhile, the book "Creativity Tent," containing 78 testimonials under the title "Testimonials and Memories / Mohamed Ben Issa... The Statesman and Icon of Culture," was signed.
