The vision and narrative of intellectuals regarding the sanctity of the Saudi national symbolism have been recurrent, as it possesses dimensions and connotations that the intellectual reads with the eye of sentiment and awareness, especially since our Saudi homeland is a guardian of a human legacy and an extension of a pure Islamic cultural civilization, with a clear Arabic tongue.
On the occasion of our ninety-fifth National Day, we surveyed the opinions of a number of writers and researchers about their vision of the homeland and its achievements. The critic Dr. Mohammed Al-Dubaisi affirmed that the homeland is the meaning in which land intertwines with memory, history with identity, and life with values. It is the highest existential state that a person lives, thinks through, and ultimately reaches. Therefore, when the intellectual contemplates their homeland and sees it on a path leading to achieving aspirations, it necessitates their contribution to creating the meaning of the homeland with awareness, sincerity, and perseverance. This contribution requires objective criticism with a national sentiment as needed and as necessary, just as our noble homeland in this prosperous era is moving with confident, steadfast, and wise steps toward renewal, modernity, and reform; for those who lead it start from these foundations and strive in all their blessed efforts and pioneering initiatives for supreme values: welfare, knowledge, and construction, working to make the homeland a place and a people in their rightful status..
Al-Dubaisi pointed out that the intellectual is the citizen who sees the homeland as their first great home, their final refuge, and their destiny.
When the intellectual reads the achievements of their homeland, they feel joy and pride in what has been added to the path of renaissance, seeing the achievement as a step on a long road that cannot be stopped at, and placing it in a constant comparison between what has been achieved and what could have been achieved, and what should be achieved in the future. They do not settle for what exists but strive to push for further progress, elevation, and prosperity; for they see in every achievement a beginning of a new journey toward another achievement, toward a broader horizon and a greater dream.
Al-Dubaisi clarified that for the intellectual, the homeland is: a house, a root, a memory, a vision for the future, and a message they bear the burdens of. Their responsibility is not limited to glorification nor reduced to criticism, but is embodied in the combination of both, ensuring that achievements transform into a foundation for building a new awareness and a path of greater growth and advancement, so that the homeland remains, in the eyes of the intellectual, a space for belonging and dreaming together, a place inherited from the past, shaped by the present, and carried toward the future, never separating from it or forgetting their role and responsibility toward it, but always remaining a mirror in which they read their self and know through it the truth of their role in history, the world, and humanity.
Philosophy researcher Hisham Al-Sulami sees that the homeland is not just a geographical area, but an extension of human existence that grants the individual being and coherence, protecting them from confusion, isolation, and loss of identity. He considered the relationship with the homeland to be not merely spatial but a human contract that transcends to give life its meaning.
He added: As we recall our contemporary historical memory, we realize how the state of the country was before its unification by the founder King Abdulaziz. Fragmentation prevailed, division was born, security was absent, and the possibility of building a solid civilization weakened. He argued that this phase was not just past events but a lesson that illustrates that human existence can only thrive under a unified entity that transcends narrow conflicts toward a comprehensive project. He affirmed that the unification of the Kingdom was the starting point that preserved the land and the people and established the foundations of stability.
In turn, cultural advisor Dr. Abdullah Al-Ka'id emphasized that the achievements of the homeland are a testament to its importance, as the Saudi homeland is a blessing for its people and the world. He said: Perhaps our homeland entered the race with developed countries relatively late, yet it outshone others and surpassed them. He refrained from comparing our national achievements with our regional surroundings, as such a comparison is not objective. He added: As we celebrate our Day of Unity, we should compare our achievements with those of great nations that have surpassed some of those who preceded us in more than one arena, at material, moral, and human levels, noting that the evidence and witnesses are broader than counting and enumeration.
For his part, writer Waheed Al-Ghamdi valued the memory of the first brick in building a structure that we have been sheltered by for ninety-five years, and we remain assured of the future of generations under a banner of justice and giving. He pointed out that Saudis today draw inspiration from the history of heroism and the struggle of their ancestors, and they recall from the tales of extended toil what God has bestowed upon them in terms of ability, strength, and stability.
Al-Ghamdi said: On National Day, hearts, goals, and the vast diversity and immense spatial extension of the Saudi continent merge into the green color that covers everything. On this day, we reflect together, leadership and people, on the secrets of this great unity for a people who stand today like a rock against the conspiracies of forces against their homeland, pointing out that the Day of the Homeland gathers the threads of time and place, guiding us to the shores of the future through an ambitious vision befitting a homeland unlike any other, adding that on the Day of the Homeland, the universe is adorned with its eternal greenness.. the greenness of meaning, and noble souls before the greenness of the land, and the homeland sings: "No one has a favor," and its people sing: "We deserve you, O our home.. we are the ones who perish."
He pointed out that on every National Day, the question about the secret of the unparalleled great unity grows, and as the question grows, it becomes impossible to confine the answer to words, yet it is a secret that extends to three centuries, recalled by deep memory and the profound sentiment in humanity, time, and place. He affirmed that feelings cannot fully encompass the complete picture of great achievements, from the blessing of security that has become a model to the conquest of space, and behind it a massive scientific and technological system, to sports that have captured the attention of the whole world, to the significant cultural and artistic movement, to the economy, to politics, much and much more.. which does not do justice to the occasion, even if we mention it in general.
For his part, writer Mayssar Al-Shammari pointed out that the Saudi intellectual is keen on the homeland, indeed the most keen on highlighting its achievements, at least through their literary and artistic works in international forums.
He added: The Saudi intellectual has never been ashamed of their "desert" background; rather, they have taken pride in it. Al-Shammari saw that the Saudi intellectual today has become more proud of their homeland, as they see fellow countrymen as scientists at NASA, inventors, and directors in companies and organizations managing the economies of the world. He noted that the Saudi, who came from a Bedouin background, has become more proud of the tent that has become part of their identity in the G20 countries. He praised the pride of intellectuals in their homeland, which represents a continent of about 2.2 million km, with diversity in thought, heritage, customs, and traditions, considering these to be amazing things that need to be officially and thoughtfully highlighted.
For his part, novelist Moussa Al-Thunayan said: The Saudi homeland possesses a civilizational diversity that has become a source of cultural inspiration, inspiring artists, and this is reflected in their artistic and literary works. He considered pride in the homeland and belonging to it as a sense of responsibility. Al-Thunayan affirmed that the intellectual is fortunate to have a vast amount of inspiring sources, which reflects on their creativity about their environment and what they observe, each according to their field through visual, audiovisual, and literary arts. He added: When a citizen reads a novel or poetry or sees an artwork from a specific region, they become acquainted with the culture of that region. He pointed out that the feeling of security is the greatest enhancer of the creative process for the intellectual, and National Day is a precious opportunity to thank God for this blessing, the blessing of security and cultural richness.
Al-Ghudami: The homeland is not land but a value
Critic Dr. Abdullah Al-Ghudami affirmed that the homeland is not merely a specific place defined by geography or a map, but a moral value that lives within you. When you travel away from your homeland, you are distinguished from others who will be among you far away; you have a green notebook, which is the companion of your steps, your identity of meanings, and your reference. This "green" resides in your heart before your pocket, and if it is lost, you will enter a maze of wildness in your steps as your heart has become wild, and your soul will not find peace unless you enter the Saudi embassy building. Upon entering it, you feel safe, as if you are in the shelter of your home outside your homeland, as if the entire homeland has come to your hands to protect you and restore your meaning. This is the secret of our being citizens who belong to both symbolic and real meanings at the same time.
He added: National Day comes to give us a chance to express our love for ourselves, for when you love your homeland, you love yourself and your reality, just as you love the meanings of the future and trust that you are in a tent that cares for you within its folds, and you take pride in its pride and rise with its elevation. The experience of loving the homeland, its land, and its breezes is one of the most important experiences of the safe and belonging sentiment, just as you belong to it; this is the treasure of meanings, the spirit of interaction, and the active positivity.
