The Saudi visual artist Mohammed Al-Khubti continues to employ color soil in his works as a visual essence and an aesthetic memory that evokes the connection between humans and the earth. In his latest works, the absent face emerges as the center of meaning, transforming the painting into a space for contemplation, where the absence of features becomes a multiplied presence that provokes the viewer's eye and compels them to search for their own meaning. The rough gray background mimics the texture of mud walls in old houses, as if it were a wall narrating the silence of the past while simultaneously opening a horizon for the present.
The distribution of pink, green, and blue colors across the body gives the work a vital dimension, as the interplay between nature and humanity serves as a sign that the absent face is not a deficiency in formation but a conscious choice that makes the body a mirror open to endless possibilities. Here, color integrates with meaning, and clay transforms into a symbol of continuity and eternal connection.
This direction aligns with Al-Khubti's artistic project, which crystallized in his recent exhibition "Rattq" in Jeddah, where he presented more than 40 paintings reflecting his preoccupation with mud houses and the natural environment in Al-Baha.
The absent face in Mohammed Al-Khubti's experience is not a visual void but a symbolic presence that transcends form to reach essence, placing the viewer before an open aesthetic question: How can absence become one of the deepest forms of presence?
Al-Khubti is considered one of the most prominent Saudi visual artists actively engaging with their surroundings, continuously contributing to the elevation of visual arts. He recently organized the "Colors of Al-Baha" exhibition as part of the cultural activities and programs in the region.
