US President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, have discussed the North Korea's escalating threat.

In a statement, the White House said that the two leaders reaffirmed, during a telephone call, the importance of close cooperation between the United States, Japan, and South Korea in the face of the growing threat from North Korea.

The statement added that "Trump noted that he looks forward to continued trilateral coordination on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly."
